An electric kettle is a staple in British kitchens. We use them, of course, to make hot drinks, but also for food prep, sterilising and much more. They will all boil water, but kettles vary considerably. Some let you choose the temperature, which can be important if you drink teas like oolong. Some have ‘keep warm’ options, and we even tested one that can be controlled remotely by the app.
Even kettles that simply boil water without any extra features vary considerably in terms of size, speed and lid type. A kettle is something most of us use several times a day, so it’s worth thinking about whether you prefer a flip-up or pull-off lid if you want the water scale to measure in cups or litres, and whether the weight of the kettle matters to you. We’ve reviewed the very Best Cheap Kettle in UK 2021 you can buy from brands to bring you our list of the top options on the market.

How to Choose The Best Cheap Kettle in UK 2021
There are two main types of the kettle: jug and dome. Jug kettles are taller and tend to have a sharp spout for splash-free pouring. They also have their handle on the side and will generally hold a larger volume of water.
Dome-shaped kettles are more traditional and look like the classic stovetop models. Electric dome kettles often have lift-off lids that can be a bit more fiddly than flip-top models, and usually have a smaller water capacity than jug kettles. Their handles are often on the top.
Whether dome-shaped or a jug, a variety of finishes are available including toughened glass, plastic, brushed stainless steel, and chrome.
Many kettles have a matching toaster that can be bought separately. Matching sets come in a range of styles, colors and prices, and we’ve highlighted where a matching toaster is available for the kettles in this roundup.
A power element of 3kW is generally the fastest, and all of our top-scoring kettles have this wattage. If waiting for your kettle to boil isn’t a major issue for you, you may opt for a lower wattage. It’s worth bearing in mind though that these models can take much longer and use more energy to make your cuppa.
Kettles with a higher wattage tend to be noisier. If having a quiet kettle is important to you, look for models approved by Quiet Mark, who test the noise level in decibels – opt for anything considered “good”.
Typically, kettles can hold between 1.5 and 1.7 liters of water. An average cup of tea is 250ml, so you should be able to boil enough for 6-7 cups at a time. If you’re just putting on the kettle for one cup of tea, it’s worth checking the minimum capacity your kettle can boil. Most models have a minimum level clearly marked. Kettles with 300ml or less are the ones to look out for.
If you want to heat up water for tea, coffee, or even instant ramen with just the press of a button, then you’ll need an electric kettle. While we’ve written about kettles before — including the most stylish electric kettle and nice-looking stove-top teakettles — here, we’ve rounded up the best electric kettles, as praised by the most enthusiastic reviewers on Amazon.
